How much protein should we consume daily?

There doesn't seem to be a universal recommendation for protein intake among people, is there?

It is recommended to consume roughly 1.6 grams of protein for every kilogram of body weight on a daily basis. Individual protein requirements, however, may differ according to diet quality, activity levels and age with older individuals probably needing more because of anabolic resistance.
