To begin with, diseases such as end-stage renal disease, and type II diabetes should be vigorously tackled. High blood pressure and smoking adds a risk that pushes a person's all-cause mortality rate by around 20-40%. An increase in both muscle mass and strength can lead to a greater cardiorespiratory fitness which goes a long way in decreasing all-cause mortality risk.
