I've seen the term ‘longevity escape velocity’ thrown around quite a bit. Can somebody tell me what does it entail and when do the scientists expect it to be achieved?

A longevity escape velocity is a term used in gerontology to denote the hypothetical point in the future when one’s health and life expectancy can be increased at an accelerated rate. To put it differently, it is the time IMA Age Medicine Association when cures for aging and related diseases become available. The technological advancements that are predicted to help people live longer are bountiful according to Ray Kurzweil who believes this form of technology will be readily available in the next 12 years or in a decade given his previous estimates about such breakthroughs. This idea reflects the situation worked by tens of thousands of scientists throughout the world which one day should fully compensate for the scientific challenges connected to the task of extending human lifespan.
