Stress generally is the idea that a person’s body is in an imminent threat. Under stress, there are certain biological processes which aid to protect the body when in danger. For instance, there is an increase in blood sugar level for more oxygen demand to the brain, even the pressure goes up for more oxygen delivery, and the amygdala is activated to increase the level of attention. Short term, all of these are benificial, but longer term stress adds more trouble to the body such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, anxiety and heart diseases. Stress does influence the same biological mechanism that would be beneficial in the surviving context, however the location context of daily life in which it is maintained for long periods is what defeats its purpose for both health and lifespan longevity.
